Hrithik does the Kathakali dance

Hrithik Roshan

After keeping away from live stage performances for as long as three years due to his knee injury, Hrithik Roshan is set to step into the spotlight again at the Rajiv Gandhi Awards ceremony in Mumbai on Wednesday. And he won’t be doing his usual mind-boggling western dance moves, but folk dances. The reason? His act ‘Colours Of India’ at the event’s finale will be a tribute to Indian dance and art forms.

So instead of the break-dance, Hrithik will do the Lezim folk dance of Maharashtra and the highly expressive Kathakali dance of Kerala mixed with some Kalaripayattu martial art moves. He will also do the contemporary Bollywood dance on a number from his film Luck By Chance.

“I have loved every moment of learning the various folk acts,” Hrithik told a Mumbai tabloid.

Hrithik’s whole act has been conceived by Carving Dreams, the company that manages him. In fact, it’s Carving Dreams that provided Hrithik with a choreographer, a dance trainer and a costume stylist for the performance.

The award function will also see performances by Priyanka Chopra and Esha Deol. Bollywood stars Katrina Kaif and Shahid Kapur will be awarded at the event.
