Born November 19, 1962 as Alicia Christian Foster, Jodie Foster is one of the most successful actresses in Hollywood today. Even before she attended college, Jodie has already appeared in almost 50 films and TV shows. At age 3, Jodie Foster received her first job as the Coppertone Girl in a TV commercial. However, it was in 1968 that Jodie became a TV actress appearing in an episode of “Mayberry R.F.D.,” followed by a small role in the TV series, “Gunsmoke” and “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father.”
In 1970, Jodie Foster landed her first film role in the TV movie, “Menace on the Mountain.” Starting 1972, Foster appeared in several Disney movies, including “Napoleon and Samantha,” “One Little Indian,” “Freaky Friday” and “Candleshoe.” Before Jodie Foster turned 14, she has already worked with the big names of Hollywood, including Scott Baio in “Bugsy Malone,” Martin Sheen in the 1976 movie “The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane” and Robert De Niro in the film “Taxi Driver.” Foster received two BAFTA Awards in 1976 – ‘Best Supporting Actress’ for her work in “Taxi Driver” and ‘Best Newcomer’ for “Bugsy Malone.” Before Drew Barrymore started her career, the 14-year-old Jodie Foster became the youngest person to host Saturday Night Live. As a teenager, Jodie Foster became a teen pop star in France. In 1977, Foster released two singles – her first and only recordings, which were included in the 1977 French film “Moi, fleur bleue.”
Foster continued her film career as an adult, appearing in films such as “Foxes”, “The Hotel New Hampshire”, “Five Corners”, and “Stealing Home”. However, it was in the 1988 film “The Accused” where she portrayed a rape survivor that won her “Best Actress” at the Academy Awards and Golden Globes. Jodie Foster earned another set of “Best Actress” awards from the Golden Globes and Academy Awards for the 1991 movie “The Silence of the Lambs.”
By 1991, Jodie Foster made her directorial debut in the 1991 critically acclaimed film “Little Man Tate,” followed by the 1995 black comedy film “Home for the Holidays.” She then founded a production company in 1992 called “Egg Pictures” and produced her first independent film “Nell” in 1994. Throughout the late 1990s, Jodie Foster continued to work on other films, including “Sommersby,” “Maverick,” and “Contact.” She also starred in the hit thriller film “Panic Room” in 2002, appeared in the 2004 French film “Un long dimanche de fiançailles” (A Very Long Engagement) and worked on “Flightplan,” “Inside Man” and “The Brave One,” which all gained critical and box office success.
In 2008, Jodie Foster starred in the film “Nim’s Island,” the second comedy flick she has starred in after the 1994 film “Maverick.”
